‘You are smart, you are kind, you are important’

Every night since she was at least 10months old I have said the same thing to our daughter…

‘You are smart, you are kind, you are important’

I may have borrowed it from the amazing film ‘The Help’ which was about black rights in America but I found the words very inspiring and applicable…

we dont need to mention how beautiful she is, there are enough people that do that for us, what is important is trying to guide this impressionable little being into believing in herself, be someone of substance and make a difference in some way to this world and its inhabitants.

This is the same as what I believe the housemaid was trying to do with the privileged little girl in the film – raise her well in the hope she would make a difference to the ethnic divide in the future.

This is something we should all endevour to achieve for our children and the future of our society.
