14/12/20-20/12/20

This week has been eventful, technically a week off but she has still done regular maths and reading, the focus was tidying away previous projects and craft to put the Xmas decorations up and make space for new projects. Half way through the week I managed to have an accident which meant she got first hand experience of wound management and bandaging, she was incredibly calm and when she saw me ran to get tissue to help, it has made things a little slower as I was thrown a bit, particularly in the first couple of days, this mainly affected the Nutcracker activities we had that I had planned to do in one day but ended up spreading over three.

This week was Wedding week, we looked at various different traditions from religious weddings around the world, it was a whole lot of fun in terms of creativity. We followed the ‘pawprint badge’ on weddings for activities (if you aren’t aware of pawprint badges they are pretty much like scout/guides badges).

Monday:

Topic – weddings – henna designs (so once again because of the practical issues of Covid19 and having to be prepared way more in advance, we didn’t actually get to use henna, we used some of her remaining transfers to create a similar effect for our own little Mehndi; minime was very happy with them as we added glitter to.) Made wedding favours – she had a thought we could give everyone hot chocolate, so we put hot chocolate topped with mini marshmallows in little jars. Created her own table centre piece – I supplied a variety of items and minime put them together to create her own wedding table centre piece. Planned a honeymoon – minime decided China to see pandas… I think it was an eye opener to her on how much it would cost. Discussed facts from ‘girlsnotbrides.org’ about the number of underage marriages, causes and implications and a little bit on how she thought we could help – it was a bit of a hard topic so instead of making a video like the task suggested, it was more of a discussion about girls (and human) rights and opportunities like education.

Wrote a card for Grandma for her upcoming wedding.

Spanish – listen to songs CD2.

Maths – Letts book – addition and 3D shapes.

Reading – almost independently read ‘Dog and the lost mum’.

Saturday:

Attempted to make kransekake but failed as we didn’t have moulds and the dough spread out into a mess.

Minime wanted me to make her a dress, so we took some measurements, chose some of my old fabric and trimmings and she drew and explained how she wanted her dress (I explained it wouldn’t be ready today but would take a few days, maybe a week), she enjoyed watching some of the process.

Played with Babushka and practiced Russian.

Sunday:

Own choice – made a fox puppet independently, using paper, string and bits from the recycling.

Normally next week would be couple of short activities and then self directed learning or time off but I swapped the weeks around as grandma’s wedding is coming up and it would be helpful for downtime to coincide with that so next week will be country topic week and we are looking at Egypt.
